Memorial Day Weekend in Reno 2026 — Reno River Festival, Jessica Simpson, Lake Tahoe & Everything to Do May 29-31
By Ask Reno
Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer in Reno — and the calendar reflects it. The Reno River Festival takes over Idlewild Park all three days with whitewater kayak competitions, food, music, and the riverside vendor village. The big-name show is Jessica Simpson Saturday night at the Grand Sierra Grand Theatre. The Pulitzer-winning Sweat opens at Reno Little Theater. Lake Tahoe quietly becomes the busiest road trip in Northern Nevada.
There's also Shucked the Broadway musical at the Pioneer Center, Legion Sports Fest filling the Reno Events Center with combat sports, Kyle Gass Band at Cypress, NGHTMRE at Cargo, and a packed Saturday at the Discovery Museum.
Here's everything happening May 29-31, 2026 in Reno.

Reno River Festival opens — Idlewild Park
The 25th-anniversary edition of the festival that built Reno's whitewater identity. Kayak/SUP competition on the man-made wave, food trucks lining the park, vendor village, music stages. Free admission, Friday afternoon through Sunday evening. Bring sunscreen, bring water, and walk the river path from the West Street Market to the festival grounds.
Sweat opens at Reno Little Theater

Memorial Day at Lake Tahoe begins
If you're heading up: leave Reno by 1 PM Friday or after 7 PM. South Shore for nightlife, Sand Harbor and Incline Village for quieter beach days, Truckee for the food scene. The Mt. Rose Highway is the fastest way in if you're going to Incline.
Love & Laughter — Nugget Celebrity Showroom *(Thu but worth noting)*
Comedy showcase that opened Thursday and runs through the weekend at the Nugget.
Saturday, May 30
Jessica Simpson — Grand Sierra Resort
Saturday's headliner. Jessica Simpson at the Grand Theatre, 8 PM. The pop-country reinvention tour. GSR keeps booking acts you don't expect to see in this town — and selling them out.
Reno River Festival — Main Competition Day
Saturday is the day. Kayak finals on the water, biggest crowd on the grounds, food and beer tents at full tilt. Idlewild Park. Plan to arrive by mid-morning for parking, or bike in via the Truckee River Trail.
Legion Sports Fest — Reno Events Center
Combat sports tournament (Jiu-Jitsu, MMA grappling, submission grappling) filling the Reno Events Center floor. All day. Spectator-friendly, family-friendly, the kind of event that quietly fills downtown hotel rooms.
Kyle Gass Band — Cypress

NGHTMRE — Cargo Concert Hall

A Note on Memorial Day Travel
Memorial Day is the busiest Reno-to-Tahoe travel weekend of the entire year until July 4. If you're driving:
- Friday afternoon, eastbound I-80 clogs at the agricultural inspection station near Verdi from about 3 PM. Leave before noon or after 8 PM.
- Friday night, Mt. Rose Highway (NV-431) is the cleanest route to Incline Village and the North Shore. Highway 28 around the lake is slow but scenic.
- Sunday afternoon, westbound I-80 clogs hard from about noon. Best return windows: before 11 AM or after 7 PM.
- Monday afternoon return is usually fine if you wait until after 3 PM.
