Yes, Reno is generally safe. Like any mid-sized city, some areas are rougher than others. South Reno, Somersett, and Caughlin Ranch are very safe suburbs. Midtown and downtown are safe but have typical urban issues (homelessness, occasional property crime). Most locals feel comfortable walking around.
